Nursing home outbreaks remain level at 29, with slight decline in infections

There are 29 Iowa nursing homes with active, ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks, and 269 infections associated with those outbreaks.

That’s a slight decrease from last week, when there were 29 active nursing home outbreaks and 275 infections associated with them.

On Nov. 2, there were 23 Iowa care facilities with current, active outbreaks, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health. At that time, there were 226 infections tied to those outbreaks.

The newest nursing outbreaks are at Cerro Gordo County’s MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center; Floyd County’s Nora Springs Care Center; Mills County’s Glen Haven Village; Montgomery County’s Good Samaritan Home of Villisca; and Story County’s Accura Healthcare of Ames.

The biggest outbreaks are at Iowa County’s English Valley Nursing Care Center, which has had 43 infections tied to the current outbreak; Hardin County’s Heritage Care Center, which has had 23 infections; and Osceola County’s Sibley Specialty Care, which has had 23 infections.

This the complete list of current, active nursing home outbreaks, according to IDPH:

Adair County — Community Care Center: Seven infections, the same number as reported each of the previous two weeks.

Butler County — Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center: Four infections, the same number as reported each of the previous two weeks.

Cass County — Atlantic Specialty Care: Four infections, one more than was reported each of the previous two weeks.

Cerro Gordo County — Heritage Care & Rehabilitation Center: Three infections, the same number that was reported last week.

Cerro Gordo County — MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center: Three infections. This is a new outbreak.

Clayton County — Guttenberg Care Center: Three infections, the same number that was reported last week.

Clinton County — Wheatland Manor: Nine infections, one more than was reported last week.

Delaware County — Edgewood Convalescent Home: Eight infections, one more than was reported last week.

Des Moines County — Great River Klein Center: 21 infections, the same number that was reported each of the previous two weeks.

Dubuque County — Stonehill Care Center: Nine infections, the same number that was reported last week.

Floyd County — Nora Springs Care Center: Three infections. This is a new outbreak.

Hardin County — Heritage Care Center: 23 infections, the same number that was reported each of the previous two weeks.

Harrison County — Longview Home: Five infections, the same number that was reported last week.

Iowa County — English Valley Nursing Care Center: 43 infections, the same number that was reported each of the previous two weeks.

Johnson County — Lantern Park Specialty Care: Six infections, the same number that was reported each of the previous two weeks.

Jones  County — Monticello Nursing & Rehab Center: Five infections, two more than was reported last week.

Lee County — West Point Care Center: Three infections, the same number that was reported each of the previous two weeks.

Linn County — The Gardens of Cedar Rapids: Six infections, the same number that was reported last week.

Mills County — Glen Haven Village: Four infections. This is a new outbreak.

Mitchell County — Stacyville Community Nursing Home: Eight infections, the same number that was reported last week.

Montgomery County — Good Samaritan Home of Villisca: Four infections. This is a new outbreak.

Osceola County — Sibley Specialty Care: 23 infections, the same number that was reported each of the previous two weeks.

Polk County — Mill Pond: Three infections, the same number that was reported each of the previous two weeks.

Pottawattamie County — Avoca Specialty Care: 20 infections, six more than was reported last week.

Scott  County — Kahl Home for the Aged & Infirm: Three infections, which is one fewer than was reported last week. (Decreases in infections tied to specific outbreaks can be the result of miscalculations or revisions in categorizing illnesses as infections.)

Story  County — Accura Healthcare of Ames: Seven infections. This is a new outbreak.

Story  County — Green Hills Health Care Center: Three infections, the same number that was reported last week.

Union County — Creston Specialty Care: 11 infections, one more than was reported last week.

Winnebago County — Lake Mills Care Center: 17 infections, the same number that was reported each of the previous two weeks.
